Bane Alan Veronee
I guess I gave some pretty awesome hints, because pretty much everyone guessed correctly! (winner below). Thank you to all who played along!! It was nice to hear so many thought it was such a cool name!
The name Bane is of Hawaiian origin (which neither of us are – but hey, Hawaii is pretty), and means both “long awaited child” and “glorious defender”. We weren’t choosing a name based on it’s meaning, but this one definitely helped seal the deal! What manly-man dude doesn’t want their son to grow up to be strong & heroic?! For Robby it was an instant winner! We also wanted an uncommon name (but not a ‘made up’ one), Bane was used less than 120 times Unfortunately, the word ‘bane’ doesn’t have such positive connotations, but the good thing is, I rarely hear anyone use that word.
We chose a pretty ‘normal American’ middle name that is also Robby’s middle name, Alan. I was hoping to change it to be spelled like my dad, Allen’s, first name – but Robby said it would be weird to change the spelling of his own name. Then, my dad agreed that he didn’t care for the spelling of his name, so I put up my little white flag.
It’s amazing that something as simple as choosing a baby name becomes a major life decision for a married couple – like sit down over coffee and get all serious about – kind of decision. Like as if you’re mapping out their entire future with just their name. When they look at his resume, what will they think? interesting, or crazy? What ways can kids make fun of his name? Will people spell it wrong? Well, here’s hoping! :) I get to meet him FINALLY in six-ish weeks!!
I had to do a drawing because so many guessed correctly — Elizabeth, you won!! Email me your address for your $10 Starbucks Gift Card!
