This is the third workshop I’ve hosted, and each time I wonder what the group is going to be like! Each time, the vibe is different based on who is in the group! This time, I had a photographer sign up, and of course I was super excited, because I knew we’d have some gorgeous images to share! Thank you sooo much Lelia!! There are also loads of other fun pics from everyone on Instagram at #avfloralworkshop . Kristin, of Fat Girl Cakes – my go-to for ANY cake, joined us on day one for the ‘in studio’ day — she made us some yummy goodies (she makes THE MOST amazing pound cake-cake, BTW!) and hung around to help stay organized (she’s very Type A, so it balances me ;) Of course, a HUGE thank you to my bride, turned friend, turned fellow wedding vendor friend, Kat of Dear Sweetheart Events (and co-founder of the amazing Creative at Heart Conference). We always have a great laugh together making sassy jokes and being silly… I just LOVE her!
I love the workshops, because it’s so amazing to me that people come with the passion to make beautiful pieces, but just need the tools, empowerment and the know-how to create them! For example, Hope – she made these fabulous pieces on the right, but claimed she was a newbie! By the end of day two, everyone had created some AMAZING pieces – with simple instruction and design tricks/tips! I learned mostly about wedding floral design on my own by researching — I had no mentor, so I know how it feels to want to know how things are created. I love being a part of their discoveries!! :D
I had a great variety of designer ‘experience’ at the workshop. A wedding planner, a veteran floral designer, a just-starting-weddings designer from Whole Foods (I started in a grocery store too, so trust me – that’s a great place to find a passionate designer!!), a designer who just started her business, and a photographer! What an interesting group! We all shared laughs, Panera and I love how they all worked so great together to offer advice, and create these designs as a team… including lots of Instagram shots of each other wearing floral crowns ;)
The key word here was ‘obnoxious’ … I think we accomplished that with this fabulous display!!
Making garlands for the chairs!!
just a few sneak peeks of the shoot from Lelia – the behind the scenes photographer/floral designer!
…. it’s pretty obnoxious, right?? ;) How gorgeous is that candelabra from Paisley & Jade?! Morgan is such a hoot – pretty much every shoot I have, she’s there with some witty banter!
